mini seriesTo begin the investigation, we first created a mini series to establish what exactly we are asking. My mini series consists of four 5 x 7 pieces that all consist of transitioning loop of light to darkness, back to light.

investigation #9Parade
Questions throughout the investigation were how does light create depth and how it affects color. I also questioned how light and darkness affects how a piece is emotionally portrayed. The ninth investigation shows improvement in blending colors and transitioning from light to dark. There is more detail than the first investigation as I have learned to use pens in order to include finer lines which I would not be able to do with water color easily. There was little experimentation throughout all pieces aside from investigation eight where I attempted to use colored pencils to recreate light streaks. Techniques that were successful throughout the investigations were to start with the background and skin tone first. By taking time and letting paint dry, I can produce smoother lines and better blending. Materials: The materials I used were watercolors and ink.
